The Economic Challenge Investment Fund (ECIF) aims to enable Higher Education Institutions to respond rapidly to the needs of employers and individuals during the economic downturn.

A number of universities in the HEEG region submitted successful bids and this page will give you details of where to get full details of all of the projects.

Creative Advantage Partnership

Creative Advantage partnership (the University for the Creative Arts, the University of Winchester and the Arts Institute of Bournemouth) aims to support businesses in digital media, fashion design, interior design, advertising, marketing and branding alongside publishers and journalists. Key issues for individual practitioners and businesses in the creative industries include developing new international markets for their products, software training, managing change in challenging economic conditions and, for those struggling to find employment, setting-up and running their own creative businesses. Matched funding, primarily from university resources, is supplemented by employer contributions. See www.ucreative.ac.uk/business


GraduateOn

GraduateOn is a new initiative supporting businesses in the economic downturn and promoting the retention of graduates in West Sussex. GraduateOn is led by the University of Chichester in partnership with Chichester College, Arun District Council, Chichester District Council and West Sussex County Council. GraduateOn is built around a special programme of graduate employability support, including placement opportunities with West Sussex businesses and employers that will provide the platform to launch graduate careers in West Sussex. The programme also offers a limited number of subsidised Knowledge Partnership Programmes for West Sussex businesses. Contact: a.dixon@chi.ac.uk 


Oxford Brookes University

As part of its successful series of ‘Getting a Grip on…’ two day introduction to management programmes, Oxford Brookes is offering a short course on ‘Trading in Difficult Times’. The programme, which is offered at greatly reduced rates, will cover all aspects of surviving in business in a recessionary climate. Programmes are delivered to small groups of delegates by experienced Business School staff and are designed to bring leading-edge thinking to the current trading environment, as well as best-practice sharing

Business for Starters, a collaborative initiative between business, the University and professional advisers is designed to help individuals in the early years of their new business ventures. As the designated deliverer of the (Business Boffins) National Programme for Small Business Support in the South East region, Oxford Brookes delivers the programme on line and with mentor support and it is again offered at reduced rates in the context of ECIF. Graduate2Business

Graduate2Business is a joint initiative between Kingston University, Royal Borough of Kingston, Kingston Chamber of Commerce and Kingston College. Its primary aim is to offer FREE employment support to graduate-level individuals who live in and around the Kingston area, and who are unemployed or at risk of being unemployed, including those graduating from the University this summer. Its secondary aim is to offer support to local employers to help them through the recession by supporting local business networking events and by offering possible access to fee remission on training courses for eligible participants. Voluntary Sector Internship Scheme

The new Voluntary Sector Internship Scheme at the University of Winchester is the first of its kind in the country. Operating alongside Community Action Hampshire, the scheme will provide three days a week management work experience plus an additional bursary of £1,000 towards a one year postgraduate programme in business.
